‘Tis the Season of Sharing

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God can bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Corinthians 9:6-8

Christmas is popularly known as a season of celebration and rejoicing. It truly is however it gains more meaning when the season is added with more of giving and sharing.

This season is all about giving and that should not just stop with your family and friends. It is important to spread the joy of the holiday season to others. The holidays are always a time of year when people from all walks of life take time to celebrate each other, their children, and better days to come.  The Christmas holiday is about people’s thoughts and hearts surrendering to the season of giving.  Sharing without looking for anything in return is the Christmas spirit.  It is mainly about finding time to make someone else feel special.

Every year, as Christmas approaches, shops on the street arrange a dazzling display of Christmas presents, with Santa Claus and Christmas trees, and so on. Festooned in trees and on buildings there are many-colored lights, and whole cities are decorated with lanterns and colored hangings, and everywhere there is joy and excitement. To Christianity, Christmas is a very special holiday, and several months before Christmas, many churches will begin to busy themselves preparing everything necessary for the Christmas holiday.

Christmas is also a season of sharing and giving not just gifts, but also forgiveness to our enemies, tolerance of our opponents, maintaining honour in our relationships, and setting a very good example towards our children. A little poem by John and Edna Massimilla beautifully expresses the joy of ‘Tis the Season -

“Christmas is a time for caring and being with the folks you love.
Christmas is a time for sharing blessings sent from above.
Christmas is a time for giving to those who have some special need.
Christmas is a time for trusting and forgiving, a time for doing a worthwhile deed.
Christmas is a time for music, for Christmas carols, we love to sing,
Bringing peace and goodwill to all and praising Jesus Our Lord and King.”

As we celebrate this great festival of Christmas, we cannot but lift up our hearts to the Christ Child and thank Him for all the caring, sharing, and giving of your generous hearts during the years gone by. As so we cherish these memories with gratitude during this holy season. May the Child Jesus who is love incarnate, enfold you in His arms. May the gentle peace that he brings, touch you softly from above and fill your hearts and home with peace and love. Let us reignite the true spirit of Christmas by sharing goodwill and pledging reconciliation. Let us hug our neighbour and shake their hand irrespective of their tribe, party affiliation, religion, or social status. Let us share gifts with the less fortunate in our communities.

Merry Christmas! and a very Happy New Year…
